Pause for joy!

This #happiesmonday, I’d like to set you an easy-peasy challenge that I promise will bring a little more joy into your week. Up for it? Course you are!

So, here’s what I’d like you to do:

Yep, I challenge you to take at least one little moment every day where you pause whatever it is you’re doing – for just a few minutes – and go do something, anything, that makes you feel more connected with the world.
You don’t have to go far. It doesn’t have to take long. All that matters is that you step away from whatever task you’re doing with the intention of creating a little space for joy.

Give yourself permission

Now, though this sounds easy, it can actually be quite challenging at first. First, giving yourself permission to pause can be tough when you've a to-do list as long as your arm. Secondly, you might find yourself wondering what you're getting from the experience when you first start doing it. Stick with it - I promise it works.

Learn from the pros

And if you want to some pro tips, I'd suggest you observe kids playing. Young children are the masters of the art of pausing for joy. Of doing things purely for the wonder of the experience - as demonstrated beautifully by my daughter and the dandelion in the video below.
So...your turn.
What you do is totally up to you. You know you! But here’s my go-to list:
🐦Step outside the office door and listen to the birds
🐝Watch the bees gather pollen in the flowers
🌻Go for a walk and notice all the gorgeous late summer scents
🐹Lie down on the floor and play with the dogs
🎹Practice a quick tune on the piano
🍀Take my socks off and have a wee sway barefoot on the grass
🌳Sit on a warm tree stump and notice all the textures in the wood (yes, I'm #hippies too)
🧘‍♀️Do an easy breathing exercise (in for 4, out for 4)
🤸‍♀️Try a handstand or cartwheel or balance - something that challenges me and is fun
😊Give my temples a wee rub with my favourite essential oil

Be thankful 

Now, when you’re doing this, try to be fully immersed in the experience. Tune into all your amazing senses. And when you’re done, take a wee moment to be thankful – for your senses, for the experience and for the joy. Don’t skip this bit. Practising gratitude is a game-changer when it comes to happiness. 🙏🙏🙏
Do this once a day, or more if you can, and it’ll do wonders for your sense of wellbeing.
